If you’re trying to escape the city without actually leaving, look no further. Secluded deep in the woods of Rock Creek Park, there are no signs of city life as mature trees block out the city noise and buildings. Services include a free practice green, pre-packaged snacks & drinks, and the Golf Academy. Come to Rock Creek’s beautiful 9-hole setting and be one with nature for awhile.
The Future of Rock Creek…
The National Park Service (NPS) and National Links Trust (NLT) are working together to restore the courses’ historic design, improve facilities, and invite everyone to discover and enjoy golf. In advance of the project at Rock Creek Park Golf, NLT and the NPS are preparing a plan and environmental assessment to evaluate the project.
Rock Creek Park Golf will be closed for the winter season starting December 8, 2024. Plans to re-open will be shared in the Spring.

Washington DC’s second public golf facility at Rock Creek was designed by William Flynn. Flynn was a giant of early 20th century golf design, and would go on to design legendary courses such as Shinnecock Hills and Cherry Hills.
In contrast with Travis’ design at East Potomac, Rock Creek Golf Course was built to accentuate the character of the former farmland and hardwood forests.
Of the three facilities, Rock Creek is the most challenging. Due to its extreme hills and narrow fairways on the back nine. While the front nine is mostly flat and open with short par 4s and long par 3s. Rock Creek also offers Family Tees to help even the odds for less experienced golfers.
The back 9 will be closed until safety renovations can be completed.
The entire Back 9 is currently unplayable, but some holes are open for a quick 5-Hole Loop. Golfers can make a tee time to play holes 10, 11, 15, 17, and 18.
There is a large putting green free of charge and available for use. There is no driving range at Rock Creek.
Rock Creek’s snack bar serves the basic golfer staples: candy, chips, soda, water and beer.
All rates are for the Front-9 only. Back-9 is closed. 5-Hole Loop is open for Holes 10-11-15-17-18.
